Gonna Get Yorkvilles today. Somebody stop me!

I can no longer mix on my Bose bookshelf speakers. I'm hearing the Yorkville YSM1P's are the best bang for the buck under $500 (KRK V6 and Event 20/20 BAS did not impress me-will these?). I want to order a pair ASAP... Impressions, comments?

I've heard nothing but postive comments about them on this board. They're cheap too. If I could have bought them, I would have. But I'm so far from Canada...

I've heard a lot of good on them, too, but can only find them mail order in the US. The others (KRK & Event) I've demo'd with my own stuff.

The deal is done. Ordered them minutes ago. Also got a pair of MXL 603s condenser mics coming.

Hey Chuck,

I don't think you will be dissapointed with Yorkies.....for under $500 USD......mine are working great :-)

BUT, I was a bit surprised to hear that you weren't impressed with the Event 20/20 BAS tho.....I thought they were about the best monitors I tested in the middle-price category $800-1200 USD.

I went with gear1, but www.wheatonmusic.com also has 'em. Similarly priced, around $450US.

I guess my feeling about the Events and the KRK's is that I didn't hear anything any clearer on them than I did on my Bose bookshelves , and I expected more from an $800 pair of speakers. But it's really a hard thing to do. I mean I listened to a few of my mixes back on them, but I didn't actually mix on them. How can you?

I will say I found the KRK's to be less articulate than the Events.

So, I'll start on the Yorkies. On and off through the last few months, Ive listened to stuff on the mp3 clinic by people who said they used them. So far I've gotten a lot of good info on this board. Bought my delta 1010 and a collection of mics based on reccommendations here. So far so good.

Nice Kev. Your influences are much like my own (similar age group, I guess). Nice arrangements in Traveller and Red Man.

Chuck - What's the plan for the MXL 603's? Acoustic guitar? If so, I want some feedback.

I bought a C1 a few months ago, and while it's pretty decent for vocals, I do not like it at all on my 12-string. So I guess next stop is a pair of small diaphragm condensers.

Sorry for the late response, Mike. I was watching my team beat yours

That's a yes on the 603's. I want to record acoustic gtr with them. I also might use them for drum overheads. Right now I'm using a pair of Behringer ECM-8000's for the drums. I like them a lot for that application. People's biggest complaint in that respect is the fact that they're omni, but I get pretty good stereo imaging with them. So,if I fall in love with the 603's for overheads, I'll probably still use an ECM for a room mic.

I'm currently micing acoustic gtr with an ECM over my right shoulder and my Sennheiser 421 (a dynamic - but a $300 dynamic, and a very good mic) pointed at the 12th fret. I tried using a pair of the ECM's and didn't like it. I also tried my vocal mic, Marshall V67 (I'm very happy with this on vox) on the acoustic and didn't go for it (harsh on the guitar).

I'll keep you posted on the 603's. Also, I'll be putting something of mine up in the mp3 clinic in a few days. Keep an eye out. Goin' ta bed.
