Tannoy Reveals (Active)

What is the general opinion on these? I know tannoy stuff in general is pretty good, but should i hold out for something more expesive. I don't want to spend 3K but I could spend 1000 or so, if I had to. I like the price on these, though I haven't heard them in a while, I remember liking them. Are they good enough to really mix on? My monitor ones are ok, but I HATE mixing on them. They are not flat. So, I am looking for a BIG step up from that.

I haven't got the Tannoys, but a good friend of me has and he really is enthousiastic about them. Also the reviews give them by the best in the price range.

I have Tannoy Reveal Actives in my studio. It works great for me. The mid-range is very detailed, a common trend with Tannoy monitors. I had smaller passive monitors before and the Reveal Actives have definitely allowed me to hear what's going on in the low-end. Many complain that the Reveal Actives are underpowered, but I've gotten good results from them and have adjusted to their EQ curve... Ultimately, no matter what monitors you buy, the name of the game is learning your monitors... their good points and their flaws.

Overall, the Tannoys are good in their price range. Obviously, there are better monitors for a few more dollars. Event has a few monitors in the price range of the Reveal Actives, but I tend to favor the Tannoy sound better, after using the Event 2020 bas monitors extensively in the studio.

For a few more dollars ($300-$400) you could get the Mackie HR824. These are absolutely great monitors and will last a longer time in your studio than lesser monitors like the Tannoys. You may want to save up. But if you simply want an opinion, the Tannoy Reveal Actives are good monitors that will not get in the way of your mixing, without respect to the other issues with mixing.

I don't think the reveals would be a big step up from the monitor ones. If you can, go to a place like Guitar Center which has a 30 day return policy so you can use them for awhile then return them if they are not to your liking. Save up for the Mackie's if you want a step up.

Ultimately, like Rev E said, it comes down to knowing how to mix on your monitors. I have heard some great mixes done on monitor ones.
