Burning EQ Question - Newb is unsure!

hey guys, read alot on here about rolling off at certain freq. and cutting things under this and over that, etc..

here is a picture of the eq screen I look at in cakewalk

someone suggested I fix my bass guitar in the mix but getting rid of midrange freq of around 200Hz

where would that be on this screen?

The second row labled Center Frequency. Set the Coarse to 200hz. That is the frequency that you are effecting.

The Bandwidth Q determines how much of the frequencies above and below that Center Frequency are effected.

The Gain determines the amount that is cut/boosted.

Use the Shelf EQ's to cut/boost all the frequencies above or below a specified frequency. That is considered a roll off or bass cut. That is probably the single most important EQ trick to use. Don't be afraid to be aggressive with bass cuts. But definately be carefull when boosting highs.

EQing is a very tricky thing, but there is a rule that has been taught to me many times that is very helpful in remembering "how" to EQ. . . If you want to make it sound better CUT if you want to make it sound different BOOST. Just remember though, if its not there to begin with, you have nothing to boost or cut. Make sure you get a good (quality) recording to begin with.

well in that picture I sent when someone says roll off the at such and such freq. does that mean I just click the little greet light to disable it?

For that you should use the Shelf button to the far right.
