Question why do i have 4 stereo pairs?

i'm coming out of a tascam 564 mini disk recorder track outs 1-2-3-4 to layla inputs 1-2-3-4....why do I have 4 stereo tracks? the original tracks are:2 seperate vocals,2 seperate guitar tracks...when recorded on cool edit,I get 2 pairs of vocal tracks,two pairs of guitar mixed together....what am I doing wrong? I'm not a computer person,but sheeezzzzz...I've been wasting to much time on time,please help,someone....

It sounds to me like you've got 'stereo' selected in Cool Edit, but I'm not sure.

In CE when you record anything to any track, you have a choice in the Recording Device dialog: left channel, right channel or stereo. What have you got selected?

checked everything mono or right -left I could find,but when I click on a track it shows stereo.....lost again....

Yeah, well I'm as confused as you. Let's work it a bit, and maybe someone will chime in with something resembling an answer...

What about the Tascam? Is it sending stuff out in stereo? (I don't have a Tascam... I don't even know if that sounds like a dumb question.)

kept on working it...guess I taught myself by mistake,and your suggestions...things to look for....4 tracks down,60 to go....thanks,mr.george
