Midi editor question?

Hi, was wondering if anyone knows of a midi editor (pref free cause of lack of funds) that allows you to load a midi song with multiple tracks, highlight a section of one of the tracks and then save that section as another midi file name of your choice. I have cubase VST 3.7 but I cant figure out how to do it?
I have several midi parts from different songs I wish to combine into one track and its really annoying.

I don't know of any free ones, sorry. Why do you need to combine the tracks? If you assign them all to the same midi channel it will accomplish the same thing.

Don't know cubase hardly at all, especially older versions, but if it allows you to IMPORT midi files, try this:

1. load the first song, change it's name, highlight and delete everything BUT the part you want. Save it as something memorable, such as collageTrk1.mid, or something.

2. load the next song, change name, repeat as #1 above, only use collageTrk2.mid, for example.

3. When you're done slicing all the stuff away that you DON'T want,open a new songfile and IMPORT each snippet into its own track. Slide around as necessary, copy as necessary, etc -

This is a very crude way, but may work if your version of CuBase won't allow you to highlight a section of track and EXPORT it to its own MIDI file... Steve

Oops I misunderstood. Try selecting an area of the track and go to Edit-Copy. Then pick a blank track and Paste it in.
