I used to have a cheapo Aiwa mini combo connected from the output of my PC but since then I sold it off and now looking for a speaker/amplifier set instead. My budget is only $100. Will PC speakers ( not that internal one) like the ones from soundblaster make good monitors?

I'm not sure about the sound, but the only desktop monitor system I've seen for that price is is the Yamaha System 28; two satellites and a sub = $99 US in Music Emporium.

You can hardly hear the detail of your work using those Soundblaster speakers. For a budget why don't you check out those Roland/Boss MA series monitors (ie MA-8, MA-10, MA-12, MA-20). I see them used a lot for desktop music production. It's quite okay for a budget but for me I'll probably prefer a pair of good headphones for that price.
