Tannoy monitors

I just purchased a used set of Tannoy System 800 monitors for $300. They look and sound brand new. Did I get a good deal, or is that about fair?

Tannoy, in the U.S. has been associated with chinzy gear; however, my friend in Portugal, a high-fi person, tells me that Tannoy also makes very good speakers. I thought my Infinity speakers were pretty good; however, my hi-fi friend calls them, "budget speakers."

This is my first pair of "real" monitors. My old mixes sound pretty scary when I listen to them now through the Tannoys, but when I listen to my Mother Love Bone CD it sounds like I'm sitting in their control room.

I've seen a few people say that the Tannoy Reveals spank the Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2s. That's one of maybe two sub-$1000 active monitor pairs I've heard of being considered outright better, so that's gotta say something.

Actually, I've heard those Proto J passives were pretty good too, alteast for the money.
