compressed air for cleaning...

So I finally decided that it would be a good idea to get some compressed air to clean out my faders on my Tascam 424. Well, now my master volume fader is a little stuck. (I can still move it, but it hits a bump or something between 3 and 4- what a pain) I thought cleaning out those faders like that was a great idea. Am I mistaken? I know I read somewhere that it should be part of normal maitenence. But I would always forget. Am I paying the price for my years of neglect?
