My Problem!! Please Help!!
I am brand new here but I've been scanning this forum for awhile.
This is my deal..... I will be recording my band and I need some help on the best way to do this. I mostly am concerned about recording the drum kit. My equipment: AKAI DPS12i 12 channel 6 simultaneous 1/4" Presonus Blue Tube MXL V93 Shure 849 Condensor x2 SM57 x1 Peavey 520i Nakamichi 300c sm58's My problem lies in not having phantom power on the AKAI DPS12i Besides the AKAI the only board I have is a Crate Power Head with phantom Power that I assume would be loud for recording. Also being a power amp it has very minimal outputs. I am blessed to have all of this equipment already since I just started recording. Do I need an interface? My friend is selling an Aphex 107 dual pre. for $100. Should I buy this? Any Suggestions? Please help!!! Sparkmonkey |

I know the blue tube has phantom power. It just doesn't have enough to inputs to cover all of the mic's . But if I buy the aphex I will only have four inputs with phantom power. do you think that will be enough for the drums?

since only the condensers need phantom power yes.
the sm57 and 58's dont need it. you may wish to have a submixer for drums. a lot of ppls use mackies with recorders like yours. i have an akai and i use a mackie 1202 mixer with it. it gives me 4 good preamps and xlr connectivity. |

Thanks! I'll check out the Mackie and I'll see f I can afford it. I think that's a pretty good deal on the APHEX 107.
Is submixing a hassle or is there an easy way to do it? |
