"Wrong sample type" error

Hi. I'm getting a CoolEdit Pro v2 error when I record a track. The error is "The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Try converting the sample type to a setting compatible with the sound card or choosing a different device". I get this error when recording in CoolEdit multi-track mode. I have no problems when recording in WaveFile mode so I know I've got my system setup OK. My formats are 44.1K, recording in 24-bit and the signal goes over optical SPDIF. I've tried changing both the sound card's clock as master and slave to no avail. My sound card is the Hoontech DSP24 Value; digital mixer is Tascam TM-D1000. What am I not setting up correctly in CoolEdit? Thanks, Thorne

UPDATE - I can record using the analog inputs on my sound card so the problem must have something to do with the digital signal coming out of my digital mixer and into the SPDIF inputs on the sound card. Hmmm.

Yeah, right... the only time I've gotten that message is when I was trying to operate in a digital spdif mode. Cool 1.2 refused to do it, telling me the sample rate was wrong, or some such malarky. I thought the problem was my soundcard, not Cool.

Which soundcard are you using?

dobro - My original append contains a list of all the units in my system. Sound card is Hoontech DSP24 Value which contains (using the add-on digital I/O card) SPDIF ins and outs as well as coax and analog ins and outs. Like I said, I can use SPDIF just fine when recording in CoolEdit's Wave Edit mode. It's just Multitrack mode where Cooledit objects. Therefore the only variable in the system is the 2 different modes in Cooledit which leads me to believe that I haven't set something up correctly in Cooledit when selecting the SPDIF digital input as the recording device. Any constructive thoughts on that? Thanks, Thorne
