HOW TO: midi drums tracks?

Hi, I need a couple of tricks methods on how to create midi drum tracks.

does it work like that:
-the snare on the let's say A line
-the closed hi-hat on the A# line
-the open hi-hat on the B line
-the kick drum on the C line...
-etc..

Am I right? correct me if I'm not, ok?

then if I'm right, can I use a software like SIBELIUS to write the drums scores, and the generate a midi track out of it, and then use battery or DR-008 to play it back in sonar?

Am I right about the whole process of creating drums tracks?
or shall I go directly using a external midi controller and record the midi track straight in?

What about the drum editor in sonar 2? I often hear about it on the forums but I never saw any screenshot or review about it. I'd like to know how well it compares to sibelius or finale for writing scores or tracks.

thanks for your help.

You can do it any of those ways. Using a full on scoring program would be overkill though. The piano roll editor in sequencers is usually quick and sufficient.
