I think this one ranks right up there with the rest of your tunes macle, but of course I think that since Im a fan.
I really dig the harmonies you two catch. This is just good pop music.Have you shopped this whole project around to any industry types? Are you gonna self release a CD or are the songs you've done recently gonna be part of a Artist/Demo Package?Or both?I sure hope something comes out of this because you are too talented not to be doing this for a living. Great job as always and good luck with getting this in the right hands. ![]() |

Macle,
That sure is a well put together tune. Some great textures. The snare drum is a tad on the weak side, since the rest if the song is so strong. The toms too, now that I heard again. Great vocals. Fangar |

This is my favourite since hardcore. The accoustic at the start hooked me in and your production blew me away. The organ part i love and your harmonies are just, well brilliant. I wish I could do this, aspirations are good right. Thanks macle

Kramer-Thanks!! We haven't really decided what we're gonna do. Right now, just sort of happy to be done (even though not technically done, cuz will probably remix some things and whatever...). I didn't think I'd ever finish, it took way longer than I thought, but there were a lot of problems, to say the least. So for now, I'm gonna maybe have a little drink!
After that, I may just delete everything and start over! Thanks a lot for checking this one out, I really appreciate it, and all your kind words!Fangar-Thank you! Drums will be the death of me! It's funny, I was thinking I had a good snare going, but in the end, I wasn't so sure. Do you think it's a volume thing, or...? I just used a mono reverb on the snare, maybe I should have put a bigger stereo reverb on. Thanks a lot! Erland-Alright, glad you like it! Ironically, after attempting all these bigger productions on these somewhat goofy songs, I really want to move in a simpler more straight forward direction. No more kazoos and mellotrons! Thanks again Erland, I really appreciate it. Mike-Sorry about that, looking forward to what you think! Macle |

Man.. you've got some great mixes... I loved where the bass sat in this tune.. nice and clear. And your male/female harmonies are excellent. Very nice "retro" sound. I liked the break at 2:20,.. nice guitars. Nice half-time break... (sorry to sound so scatter-brained.. I'm doing my review as I listen.)
your mixes smoke dude... and therefore I have decided that I hate you for your superior talent... ![]() ![]() WATYF |

Guernica (Mike)- Sometimes, there are problems with downloads, maybe it's a browser thing? Hope you can get the rest. Glad you like the vocal duet thing, cuz we often think that are voices don't really go together. We call it the "carhorn".
The mic on the acoustic is a Rode NTK into a Averill API into a Distressor into Paris, and the mic is probably about 6 or 8 inches away, and I sort of adjust around the guitar till it seems alright. Thanks a lot, Mike!chessrock-Thanks. Beatlesque? i suppose so... (This song is actually about a certain pair of moptops.) Thanks for checking it out!WATYF-Thanks a lot! Mixing is a real bitch! It's weird, cuz I'm always trying to improve and do things better, but then I'll listen to one I did before, and think, geez, maybe that was better then. So , thanks very much, I appreciate your hatred! Macle http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/3songs |

Macle...this is just top of the line stuff. Just really great. There are no problem areas that I see. The weakest part for me was just the melody line of the chorus's....maybe being a little to "pop" sounding...but definately, not a problem
Your lyrics are top dog, your instrumentation, singing, harmonies, imaginative sounds....all of it...nothing to improve on. I know you constantly hear comparisions to the fab four, and the "retro sound" etc..(infact, I believe I've said so myself too, I believe). I think the fact that you can be on the same level with some of that Sgt Peppers brilliance says a mouthful. I think when you can twist that mold a little more, it'll really show your production genius. I have no idea how to do that, or even offer suggestions, but making this distinctively "Macle" will truely put your stuff over the top. Everything else is already there, as far as I'm concerned...from A to Zed. I think you girlfriend/singer is a huge part of that equation too, btw. Don't lose hold of her. |

I've got blisters on me fingers...
...from hitting replay over and over. What a fine piece of work, Macle. Sounds ready to go to me, maybe just lacks final mastering.
There's an innocent quality to it that's very engaging, and your treatment contains a subtle sense of humor, a tribute to the song's subject(s). I agree about the snare (really the only weakness, if you can call it that), but seems to me that could be remedied in final mastering with a few tweaks. I love it when fellow writer/performers raise the bar, it benefits us all. Mark |

Another great one, what more is there to say??!!!
![]() I liked the break at 2:09, with the way your girlfriend was singing in the background with sort of a "counterpoint" melody. And speaking of Beatles comparisons -- at 2:29 the bass guitar reminded me a LOT of Lucy in the Sky w/Diamonds! Great, great tune. Now start making some cash from your CD!!! I am ready to buy. ![]() leahkim |

To answer your question... I would say that it sounds real loose. Not much attack to it. Much like when a drummer strikes a snare drum without much force. It lacks punch and definition which causes it to get lost in the mix a bit. The other parts of the song are all song very strong, I would love to see you nail those drums down and send it home. Great job again. Fangar |

I loved this one - I love the style. Absolulty terrific music. The keyboards are awsome - several different parts, each with their own tone. Nice touch. The tone on the voices is so nice. The harmonies blend as well as anything I've heard.
Nice song structure. Great little doodads here and there to keep up listener interest. I think we broke your website - I'm getting an error saying it's down because of excessive bandwidth consumption. Cool. The only thing I could possibly offer would be on lyrics. I think everything you do is beyond fantastic except the words. For example, "I want some of what you're on" is a pretty well used phrase. If I could offer anything constructive, it would be to focus more on the words to come up with something as imaginitive as the sounds you produce. Good luck in what every you try to do. I'm certain I'm one of a bunch of people who are rooting for you. |

mixmkr-Wow, thanks a lot! That's really a great review, especially since I thought you didn't really like what I was doing before (which is fine to not like it, but a couple comments, maybe I took what you said the wrong way, you weren't really knocking me directly, but it seemed between the lines, I don't know...
). Anyway, I agree about developing beyond the Beatles thing, I think some of the songs move beyond that, but I did go a bit overboard. Long story, but I did that cuz when we first made a couple demos, I think my girlfriend's voice combined with other elements gave people the wrong impression, so I sort of wanted to make a stand (this is a band inspired by things like Beatles!, not a chick with a producer.) Thanks again, very much!mkg (Mark)-Thank you! Very glad about your comments on the innocent quality and the sense of humor, etc. I always try to put a sense of humor into things, some more obvious than others, but lots of little jokes or double meanings that may not be apparent, which, of course, The Beatles did so well. Regarding the mastering, really looking forward to that, to see what sort of improvements can happen! Thanks again. leahkim-!niaga olleh ( ) Thank you very much. Yes, that bass is quite Lucy In The Sky. I had a couple of other basslines in that part that weren't so obvious, but I thought, oh why not! Looking forward to your next one, btw.Fangar-I wonder if it's overcompression? I was try to get a compressed sound, and maybe I overdid it (I was also trying to use Paris's soft saturation, which I had never done before). Thanks very much for the feedback! Riku-You are a man of few words, but they are always good ones! Thanks! I guess I meant the beginning of the end, or, no, the end of the beginning... Buffalo Bob-even fewer words, but just as good! Thank you. TripleM-Thanks, I really appreciate it! Your comments regarding structure, harmonies, doodads, etc., really glad you notice that stuff. Regarding the lyrics, I hear what you're saying. All these songs were written a bit hastily a while ago, and some are worse than others, and I've been trying to improve and salvage. A couple, I really wanted to change or drop, but... plus, we were going for something just kind of catchy and fun, though, hopefully, not overly cliche (this one, I actually kind of like).... But I appreciate your feedback greatly, and hope to improve. Thanks a lot! Macle http://www.angelfire.com/rock2/3songs |

Whoa! What can I add? This is so good! So fun to hear! I love the beatle-esque thing here. Really, its more the Spirit of recordings like Revolver that I hear. You are experimenting with texture using a fine song. Listening to this, I feel like the future of music may be reborn--if people like you have anything to do with it. Musically, its a knockout!
My only criticism is that the whole thing sounds like it lacks a tiny bit of warmth and presence--but I think what I am hearing is to be blamed on MP3 conversion. I wish I could hear this right off the master, if you know what I mean. And this is a very tiny criticism because the song, the performance and the mix all seem just right. You really lifted my spirit with this one! Excellent work! |

Screw me, mackle! I converted your Mp3 to aiff and messed with it through some different plug ins. I finally decided that it sounds best just like it is!
I did have one thought. The piano and several of the guitars are in the same register (playing in the same range) which causes them to fight a bit for sonic space. The drums, bass and vocals all seem to find their own sonic area. An inversion up or down on a couple of the other instruments might make them pop out a bit more. But, like I said, screw me. This is a great piece of work as is. I only wish I could do this kind of stuff. My comments are just food for thought and nothing more. This is really good music. Made my evening, actually! |
