audio stretch distorted

Ive just completed my first song. Well almost! I thought that it was a little slow so I used the audio stretch feature at 96%,But it added all kinds of distortion(wow and flutter like). I bounced everything to one track and redid it and it was improved but still distorted. The volume seems to hunt (up and down)also. Any ideas or is this an expected problem with stretch? 1.6 gig p4 with 256ram .. Thanks

There's basically no way to get around that. Being able to play with pitch/tempo at will is one thing that is, so far, solely an analogue thing.

Maybe with some higher-level expensive plugins, it can be done, but your basic Cakewalk plugin or Creative Sound Recorder won't do it without messing the sound up.

But hey, that can sometimes be a good thing.
