What kind of monitors do people prefer? I have seen black yamahas with the white speakers in many studios and i was interested in powered alesis to replace these old panasonic hi-fi towers that when placed horizontally, block my vision into the live room. What do you use???

Those Yamaha's you see everywhere are something of an industry standard. They're called NS-10's and they are very good. They are very bright, so you may want to hang a piece of toilet paper over the speakers to tamp down some of the sibilance.

You're going to want to listen to the finished product on large speakers, too, so that you'll know what things sound like on a large home stereo.

Yeah. I've figured as much when everywhere i saw them, there was something hanging over the hf driver. I might just get em.

I've got Event 20/20p powered monitors. I wouldn't trade them for all the NS10s in China!
