Midi latency problem

Does anyone recognize the following problem and knows a solution to it:

When I am recording midi in cakewalk (pro audio 9) after a while I suddenly get a delay of +/- 5 seconds! between the time that I play a note and the time it is recorded in cakewalk.
The problem seems to occur when the midi-in light on cakewalks midi-trayicon goes out (before that it is on constantly).

Describe what type system (computer specs) and sound card you are using. This might help someone give you a better answer.

Roland JX-305 synthesizer

And the synth is connected through the game-port of the SBLive
