How do I get new country bass sounds?

Hey, ev'rybody!!!!

I'm remixing some music (new country/pop/rock kinda stuff) and I'm having a hell of a time getting a decent country bass sound. I have a Fender P-Bass and a POD Pro. I can get a really nice hard rock sound, blues too, but not something punchy, clean, and discrete a la Shania Twain or Trisha Yearwood. If it's this hard, I'm thinking maybe I'm using the wrong guitar?

I use modellers for electric guitar with a Deluxe Tele - no problems there. I can sound like anyone in country today. But the bass just isn't doing it!! Can anyone lend me a hand?
