Question Have Cakewalk, Mixer, Guitars, Mic.. what am i missing?

Hi im new to this BBS, I use cakewalk, I have a behringer mixer, fender guitar, an amp BUT I need to know what am I missing? and how can I move up in music-making?.. whats the next step?.. Let me clear the questions, I have problems applying effects to my inputs (mics etc into the computer) using my SB Live software (EAX).. is there a better way to apply (lets say) reverb to mic1, no reverb to mic2, distortion to guitar 1, and no effects to MIDI using my computer and the mixer?.. thats where i think Im mixing an effect processor or something but I dont know which one to buy and which one would be the best one for me.. by the way to listen to my songs goto http://www.mp3.com/acidx

Learn about room acoustics. That one thing can help your recordings more than you can possible imagine. There are many good references on this forum.
Another place to look is a site by someone who I consider our resident expert, John Sayers.

http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html

and

http://www.locall.aunz.com/~johnsay/index.html

read it all, learn it all, be it all!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but....

This is really the wrong forum for most of your questions:

Go to the Cakewalk forum for questions about that software, effects, editing, etc.
Go to Recording Techniques for how to work your effects, mixer, etc.
Computer Recording and Soundcards to find out what your system can handle, what audio interface to use, etc.
Then post the link to your music in the MP3 Clinic forum.

This is a great website. Spread out and post your specific questions. Harvey Gerst is one of the most knowledgeable guys on here, but hangs out at the Microphone forum. You won't be able to pick his brain in the Cakewalk forum, or Studio Building. Other very knowledgeable guys can be found in many other places.

Good luck and Welcome
