Can you use VST instruments without midi controller?

I have Cubasis.

I'm more in it for the audio tracks than the midi tracks but I was wondering if there's any way to use the keyboard as a simple midi controller (just so I could use the virtual drums). I'm cheap and I'm not going to spend any money on a midi controller (I still have too much mandatory gear to save up for before I even start thinking about such extravegances) Is this possible? Thanks

I have Cubase 32/VST and you can in that, but I am not familiar with Cubasis. If it has a drum editor window, get the drum machine plug in going and then open the drum edit window and you can manually make drum tracks and loops using only your mouse. Hope it has it and this info helps you.

What do you mean when you say keyboard??? If it is an actual board and it has midi capabilities than it can control the plug, if you're referring to just triggering the plug within Cubasis then go with K's advice. You don't have to empty your piggy bank for a cheap controller, go to a pawn shop and find a cheapo casio that has midi capabilities and your set, cost you maybe 50 bucks. I think that some sort of hardware keys that have midi is about as necessary as it gets. Maybe I'm just not gettin the question???
