Synchronizing VST32 to SMPTE/MTC??

Does anyone here have any success sync-ing Cubase to SMPTE/MTC? For some reason I'm not able to get it slave properly.

I'm running SMPTE into an old JL Cooper PPS-2 which then generates Midi Time Code and then sends it into my computer via midi. Cubase recognizes a midi signal, but won't lock up with the tape.

Is it possible that my JL Cooper box is too outdated for Cubase? I can't imagine that MTC has changed any as I'm sure that SMPTE is the same as it always has.

If someone out there has a set-up that sync's well, please tell me what they use! I'm more than willing to buy a new sync box if I need to. ...but I'm not sure if that's the problem.

I do believe I set everything up properly in Cubase but maybe there's something I overlooked?
