I'm a firm believer in that quote. So, with that under the bridge. I have 2 questions. Is it possible to use my puters CD-RW to record from a porta 2 ? If so, how? In addition, hats off to Timandjes for mentioning the cost factor on his thread. I, like him do not plan on becoming an engineer and would like to keep my cost down if possible. I just purchased a new Marshall amp so that somewhat tells you where my priorities (cash) lean. I realize there is going to be some expence, jus trying to keep it low is all. Thanks.

Connect the output from your porta 02 (I assume it has one?) with the input of your soundcard. Record your music on your comp (in CEP, or soundforge or whatever), Cut the songs like yoy want them to, yoy even have the possibility to add some compression and EQ, save them as wav files and voila: you can write them on your CD.

The porta 02 doesn't really have a dedicated out for this type of thing but you can run a 1/4 cord out of the headphone out to the input on your soundcard which is usually 1/8 so you may need one of those little adapters(they cost like a buck at walmart). If your really scrimping budget wise, you can use Musicmatch Jukebox (www.download.com)to record the audio coming from your porta 02 and also convert to mp3 or wav at which point this will be ready to burn on your CD-r drive.
Note: musicmatch won't let you edit the file or add compression or anything like that but its free. If you aren't too worried about quality (which i assume your not because your using a Porta 02) it will do the job but there are way better programs for a little cash that will do the trick. I don't know much about these though.

Don't use the headphone out...that is amplified. The porta 02 has RCA outs that aren't amplified. There are cables (i have about a thousand...) that have 2 Rca's on one end, and the other is a stereo 1/8" end. Hope that helps..i used to do the same thing
