midi probs

i'm having a mare... just can't seem to get and midi audio output from my computer. i don't use midi control, in fact i discovered it trying to get the metronome to work in Sonar but then discovered there's no midi coming out at all.

i use an sblive (blurghghhg) on win2k with kx project drivers, and i know its going to be something very very obvious, i just don't know what! i've checked all the expected places in device manager, which was all normal except there was no instrument definitions set up. should that make a difference? there was a general one (plus hindered? and adlib) on my computer that i used that to no avail.

the synth volume in the kx mixer is all the way up and unmuted. i've tried playing just a basic midi file in winamp and still no joy.

can anyone help?!?!

If you are using Sonar , check the help menu on "Recording or Midi Playback..it will tell you precisely what settings you need to make within Sonar..

If it doesnt even work in winamp then sonar is probably not the problem. Make sure the Midi volume is up in the windows mixer and you may want to reinstall the SB drivers just for kicks.
