Angry Boycott Pace Interlok Technology !

Unbelievable.

I kept all my original emails with my reciept, reg - code etc.

Configured my new audio PC.

Now I can't reinstall my Antares plugs because you can only install them on one PC.

Ever.

And they make SURE of of this with the Pace Interlok system.

I'm going to see if I can find a cracked version.

Anybody who has experienced this counterproductive piracy protection system please make your voice heard.

Bastards.

How do they prevent you from installing on a second comp? Some software requires you to Export the license file to another box.

How does their protection work? Are they using a reg code that they send you after registering or a license file off of a floppy?

What they do is this:

I.- You buy online, they email you a registration key and ask you to download the demo.

II.- You install the demo and when you try and register it with the Reg key you get another code - which you have to copy into a text file or whatever. This code is called the 'challenge'.

III. - Now you have to go to their website, enter the Reg key and the Challenge, along with your details. If you are like me and don't like using you're DAW for browing the internet, this can be a PITA.

III. - The site then returns yet another code, called the 'response' which must be entered into the Demo's registration screen along with the Reg key and Challenge.

This is pretty longwinded and awkward, but I assumed that they must have made the system accept repeat installs or whatever.

No.

What you are buying from them is one round of Reg. key - Challenge - Response...no more. If you try and do it again using the info in the original email it won't work, because you only get one reg. key. They also only accept emails about technical issues, and somewhere on the site it says that you may only install the software on one PC.

I thought they meant one at a time.

Nathan.

That shit sucks, and I think it must be a developing trend. All of the Visual Basic components I've recently purchased, InstallShield, and SolidWorks all have had similar registering schemes. Remember the good ol' days of no software protection?

There is an article about Pace Interlock shit at Prorec.com: http://www.prorec.com/prorec/article...256B7F0077FBA6
Its called: Waves Native Gold Bundle 3.2 featuring PACE Interlok.
Very disturbing reading indeed.

Angry I understand copy protection and all but...

As a paying customer, you deserve better. We all know that this shit isn't cheap. Anyway, there's a utility available on the net called anti-pace, that does just that. You'd be able to use it with a clean conscience.

Thumbs up That's a great article.

I could really empathise with his frustration. But at least Waves offer some sort of reauthorization, albeit extremely troublesome and long-winded.

I found a cracked version of Auto-tune, if somebody wants to bring this post to the attention of Antares' piracy dept. please feel free. I wouldn't mind talking to a representative of that company right now.

Thanks for the link to that article webstop, and the heads-up on that utility jitteringjim.

To Antares, and other sofware companies reading this, I think Mr. Rowan summed it up better than I ever could.

Quote:

I implore Waves in the strongest possible terms to rid itself of this ill-conceived anti-piracy scheme and move to any scheme that does not penalize the paying customer for his integrity.

I implore PACE to provide responsible copy protection software, or get out of the business. The Interlok product is the worst piece of software I have ever stumbled across in over twenty years of working with computers. It is more virus than application. Hopefully, any new products that PACE produces will adhere to the guidelines outlined above for unintrusiveness, interoperability, stability, availability, cost-effectiveness, and copy protection effectiveness.

I implore other software vendors - particularly Waves' competitors - to learn from Waves' example, and not to follow in their footsteps.

I implore consumers to send a message to Waves both in dollars and words. Avoid PACE Interlok-protected products in favor of other products that do not impose such a penalty on the paying user. Write Waves and tell them what you think about PACE Interlok.

Finally, I implore everyone who reads this article: do not steal software. That is why we are in this mess in the first place.
Nathan.

It's not that I agree with PACE interlok, but you can reauthorize your Auto-tune:

First of all that page applies to people who buy the boxed version , you don't get a registration card when you buy online, you fill it in online, which I did.

Secondly it concerns authorization, not reauthorization.

I had the same situation with Acid Music 2. I thought I'd misread it at first, but no, if you change your PC your software's dead. Being a law abiding type I don't approve of cracks, but in this situation - having paid for software you can no longer use - I think it's justified.

So, does the anti-pace work for the Waves Native Gold Bundle? Yes I have purchased the box set, although for the price I paid I was disturbed that they were able to fit it all on one CD. I haven't had any problems yet but I build my own computers and am hesitant on whether I can switch it over or not. It probably won't happen for a couple of months, but if this works, it would save me the effore of faxing in a request to get a new challenge/response code.

Here's text pasted directly out of Antares' FAQ:

Q: My software needs to be reauthorized...what can I do?

A: Registered users can be reauthorized by challenge/response.

For more information, or to submit an authorization request, go to: http://www.antarestech.com/authorize

Did you call Antares at 831.461.7800 before you jumped to the conclusion that you couldn't reauthorize? I realize the online documentation concerning this issue isn't real clear, but I would definitely call these guys before you get on a message board and say that you can't reauthorize a product.

Judging by the size of downloadable demo, you can fit several dozens of bundles on one CD..
That would be one VERY expensive CD
