Advice on what to use for mixdowns

OK, I'm a long time player, have done lots of recording but I just started to upgrade myown recording equipment and need advice. I have a Tascam DA38 with an Alesis studio 24 mixer. I have some decent editing software (soundforge 5.0, wavelab 3.0) What I need advice on is what to put my mixing on. Sould I get a good soundcard (and which one) and mix onto my hard drive. Should I get something inbetween like a CD recorder? Thanks in advance for any help.

i enjoy working from a DAW, so the soundcard route was just right for me.

the question you have to ask yourself is whether staring at a computer screen for hours on end is right for you.

i've got the mackie 1604vlz pro, and the frontier design wavecenter/tango24. it is very clean, and the d/a/d converters are solid, but it only goes up to 48khz. if you are buying NEW then you should look for a soundcard that is capable of 96khz.
