Talking ok..SHOOT ME..but.......

You guys seem to be TOTALLY against behringer and you've given your explanations etc... BUT.. The Behringer MX9000 looks totally sweet.. it has "won awards" and gotten great reviews. And for a 24 channel mixer $1500 is a swwwweeeeeeeeeet deal. What do you guys say

Don't get me started on MX8000 or 9000 mixers...........the saga is way to long and unpleasant to document.

Well.............

I dont know....I paid 1500 for my Mackie 24.8. It was used and a year and half old and in pristine condition off of EBAY. I mean I realize that Neve it is not but I'm glad its not Berhinger either.

There are also many mixers that can be had for even less....check out an old tascam or a Topaz.....I havent used those but, again, I gotta think they will yield better results and for less money usually.

As for "winning awards" I gotta warn you that it seems that every piece of gear made these days is winning awards.............................................................................................. .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ............................................................and JUST what the fuck does THAT mean?!?!?!

Just an opinion...

No...I certainly havent but I know there is better stuff out there for the 1500 bucks. Its no secret that Behringer is pretty bottom of the line and their business practices are among the worst in the biz. Every product I've had of theirs was terrible in its own way. Thats my experience take it or leave it.

I dont care what you get, really...you asked and I gave some advice.

Good luck

To be honest with you. I had a Behringer m2004 mixer, it worked fine for me. But, after reading on this BBS, I got brain-washed, and switched to a Mackie 1402.

The only differences I have noticed (with my very limited experience in recording) were:
1) Mackie costed me more
2) Both boards' preamps are pretty quiet, but the B's pre gets pretty noisy if you turn the gain over 2-3 o'clock. On the other hand, Mackie's pres stay pretty damn quiet even turned all the way up.

So, in my opinion, you can easily get away with a Behringer board for live use. But, I can't asure you how long that baby will last tho...the Mackie "looks" stronger to me (maybe just the color that did the trick)

Al

I always say with Behringer, you're taking a calculated risk.

So you buy a 24-channel mixer, and you just have to hope that at least 20 of those channels will be working alright by the end of the year. $1500 divided by 20 channels is still only $75/channel, which isn't bad.

If not, then just keep buying behringer gear, and eventually you'll get a diamond in the rough like their omni microphones that will make up for the time you got burned on their mixer.

Or maybe not.

Longwave.............sorry, but you're not always right.

Try 3 MX8000's which ALL had terminal failures that weren't repairable by the service agent. They were ultimately replaced by an MX9000 that suffered an almost similar fate.........they have managed to keep it going. All this was in the space of approx 5 months.

thanks a lot, i guess i'll stay away from the behringer. I wouldnt care if they copied other company's products and made them cheaper as long as they were the same quality..but i guess not. what about the carvin boards??

i know there's been a lot of reliability problems, but lol, ive only heard about this in america. im on quite a few UK boards and no one has had a problem with these desks! i swear somethings wrong somewhere.

a studio nearby me had a MX8000 in their studio C. I had a play on it a while ago to see what all the fuss was with behringer mixers. The sound of the desk wasn't bad at all. the eq was pretty nice, the preamps were a little noisy, but not bad, and everthing else was allright. for the money that they are, it's a great deal. they've had theirs for 5 years and not had a prob yet. stil got 24 channels too.

when i made that comment, i was talking about the sound of the board. it's very good value for its money. i know there are reliability problems , and im sorry for those of you which have them, but as far as i know, problems with these boards in the UK is almost unheard off.

i just didin't want the original poster to go on what everyone had said. i know loads of people on this board just critise a piece of equipment because everyone else does. that doesn't give good advice.

speakin of old Tascams, I picked myself up a Tascam M-224 mixer for about $500 last year... in pristine condition. it was in a smoke free studio.

back in the day these were sold as 'recording consoles' but look a little more like today's smaller live mixing consoles. I use it for both and am happy. great buy too considering I saw some places selling just good condition used ones at around $1500

PS

if you're looking to buy used, this place has some good deals it seems:

http://www.odysseyprosound.com/used.html

they've got a tascam m224 for $525 as well. dunno what you 'pros' think about this board, but I am very happy with it.

I have a few Behringer products and I think they're great. Never had a problem with the desk or the nearfield Truth monitors. For the money, Behringer is the way to go unless you want to have politics in your sound chain.

My Mackie 24.4 was only 1200 new, and while its only a four bus, I can easily get around that by using the aux outs while simultaneously getting those XDR preamps and really quiet and reliable performance. I have no experience with the behringer though, so I cant say anything bad about it.
