Cool

what kind of music do people on this board (newbies and others) make? from what I have found out their are a lote of rock/metal musicians here. Am I right? I myself make mostly hiphop influneced tracks (only use pc). and some cheap shareware progs (works fine for me at the moment). I am at the experimenting and learning process so it would be cool to find out more musicians with the same taste of music as me.

Btw this place is the BEST

Thanks to the seniors that are willing to help us begginers out =)

Zero classical, near as I can tell. Very little jazz. After that, it opens up - you name it, people record it here - bluegrass to techno, plus some stuff you won't hear anywhere else. Haven't heard any barbershop quartets yet, though.

Or brass bands or dixieland, come to think of it. Or Mongolian throat singers, steel drum bands or Tony Bennett-style matinee idols. Hmm... this is getting serious...

Well, I myself am currently playing in
3 recording projects. 1 is a band, that has been on hiatus but we start back up in 2 days, YES!!!
This one in particular is my favorite-it's an Yngwie Malmsteen-ish band, but it's a PARODY band. We felt that all the Metal bands were so serious, that we play smoking Metal, but the lyrics are all pure sarcasm/satire.

I have alos done a bit of punk.

Mostly it's been Metal though.
I don't listen to rap (I just don't "click" with it; You know what I mean? It doesn't move me emotionally, and here in America-it's like we're being bombarded with it-so that makes it worse!)

I won't record rap-because I don't listen to it, and I couldn't give the people my best work; I know I would be trying to rush them to get it over with, and It wouldn't be fair to them.
So, I stick with what I enjoy listening to, since I'm doing this for fun.

I play blues, its pretty basic. 4or5 tracks and ...Hey!... youre makin music.(if it were only that simple). I just switched from my 424mkII to a fostex VR16. Its a whole new thing. now, instead of working at getting it clean,Im working at getting a little "warmth" into my recordings.

Another Hip Hopper here.

Yo peeps...I am an old skool Hip Hopper(but I like also the new Hip Hop).

I have been producing music for 1,5 years now(I have had my sampler for more than 4 years now, but because of difficult circumstances I couldn't produce for 3 years).

I am still in my experimental fase and that's why I make "Hip Hop Influenced" music...and not straight up Hip Hop ...

Most important is that you make music you like and not what somebody else wants to hear...Anyway...

Cool to see that there are other Hip Hoppers on this board...PEACE AND RESPECT.

I'm out.

I'm strictly a rock guy...and most things rock related...surf, blues, classic country, rock and roll...i love most stuff from anywhere between the 50s and the 70s, then my tastes take a jump from there to the late 80s, early 90s...basicly 90% of the stuff after 94 isn't worth listening to. Bands I like? the Beatles, Nirvana, the Pixies, Frank Black, Sonic Youth, the Breeders, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Zeppelin, the Who, Weezer, Beach Boys, Sex Pistols...whenever I listen to the radio, I am listening to classic rock or oldies. There's nothing that can be said for rock music these days...doesn't anyone remember rock music?

Hi alibaba
Here's one you might not have heard before. The Beatles were my reason for living when I was a kid. Then I got totally into the "art rock" thing for a decade or so (early Yes, Genesis, Dixie Dregs, etc.). Started playing in a country-rock band to help finance my education (good money, by the way), and came to embrace it as well. Now I play classic rock on the weekends for fun and profit, but my passion is recording original music that blends all of the above (imagine a tripping Yes with Beatlesque harmonies playing at a square dance). People seem to like it, but I'm not quitting my day job.

I'm a jazz vocalist and work primarily with a guitarist as a duet and also with a bass/drums/guitar trio. We perform mostly standards from the 30's/40's. I record with both outfits on a Yamaha MT4X and mix down to PC. I don't suspect that there are too many jazz musicians here but I find reading the posts to be helpful and interesting.

Hey Alibaba,
I just thought I'd post my style and influences(although I might be eaten alive for anouncing them). I'm kind of a folk, southern rock, pop, alternative player and writer. My influences incluences include Hootie and the Blowfish, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Dave Matthews Band, Chris Cornell(solo), Tonic, Jars of Clay, Satellite Soul, Kenny Wayne Shepard Band, Aerosmith, Queen, and a plethora of others. I like some weird stuff too. Soul Coughing, Barry Adamson, Captain Beefheart, and Enya.

I like the Nine Days album I just bought and I really enjoy what Everlast is doing.

I finally figured out what kind of music I play. I was watching NFL football highlights on ESPN and realized the soundtrack music is what I play. Symphonic Rock. I also play blues, classical, progressive rock. Influences-- Genesis, Marillion, Frank Gambale, T Lavitz, Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, Tony Banks, Segovia, Ted Nugent, Pete Trewavas.

Probably the best way of finding out what type of music we do is by checking the "MP3 Mixing Clinic" forum. It's there that we all share links to our newest creations. Give it a try, there is some killer music being created by our members.

John Sayers, I guess I mean Enya's weird for an eighteen year old boy that's been listening to her since he was fourteen that grew up in a small mid-western town and plays pop/rock.

Not really weird I guess.

lol, Wide Awake, I play quite a bit of "Sports Highlight Rock" myself. At least that's what I call it. I guess since I watch SportsCenter 6 hours a day it kinda subconciously becomes quite a musical influence.

From the one Enya song I have heard (that stupid one in the 80s) I would classify her as weird too.

punk rock is mostly what i play, record, have anything to do with...there's a few really talented hardcore/metal bands on the local label that i work for, and ska rules the world...i try and stay open-minded about music, but i absolutely cannot stand rap, country, or contemporary, either because of the music or the lyrics...

Im in a 3 peice band that specialise in Punk / Ska / Alternative. We write all our own songs (with the exception of the odd dodgy cover...)

i also play around with some computerised stuff. I use the PC to make a variety of things from drumtracks to totaly computerised songs.

Alibaba, what programs do you use on ur PC??? i mainly use this freeware program called 'Modplug Tracker' which is a mixture of various sequences...
