Punching in...how do i do this?

Hey, I am completely lost on how to just re-record over a certain part of a track in cubase VST 32. Say if I like my first take besides just a little part, can you just re-record that certain part without affecting the rest of the track? I know there has to be a way to do this because of how expensive the program is, and i just can figure out how. I need to be able to hear the track before I punch in, so I can play it correctly and at the right time. How do you do this?
