just playin' with myself
Seems like you guys are putting out acoustic stuff (if that isn't your normal), so I thought I'd try one out too, sans whammy, distortion, etc... I did feel 'obligated' to add some effects to the acoustic however, and try to provide a background of all electronica to blend with it.
it's called spanish nights at http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/.../album43.shtml oh..and "eat my shorts" for those that don't like cheezy wind chimes and bongos! ![]() |

Nice picking. Sounds like you cheated and used the pickups though
Your recordings always have a very crisp and polished sound. On a more subjective level- You seem to have a similar 'sound' to all of your stuff that I have heard. I think it's the backing synths and effects. It's probably a case of you finding what you like and what works in which case I will shutup. But you never know. One day they may outlaw reverb... will you be prepared? |

hey mix,
First off, taaaaaaaaasty guitar playing bro! I enjoyed the sound and playing of the guitar. It sounds more like a clean electric to me, rather than an acoustic... I like the vibe of the tune very much.... I do not like the soaking wet reverb... It makes the dated drums sound even more dated sounding IMOP.. I agree with Tex 100%. The 80's called and they want there reverb back! Maybe it was a bad reverb setting or something, but I don't like the drenched reverb sound on the drums.. don't drown your food! ![]() Other than the ocean of reverb, the recording is very good as usual.. The windchimes and bongos, I could take them or leave em. I enjoyed it on a previous mixmkr tune, but here it's ok I guess... ttttttaaaaaaaaasssssssstttty guitar playing! I really enjoyed it......Man I wish I could get my mixes to sound as good as mixmkr's! Great job, good tune, hate the verb!!! keep em comin'! ![]() later B |

hey mixmkr,
what monitors did you say you use? the 4412s?. I might need to get me some. The mix sounds awesome as usual on headphones. The percussion is great again, instrumentation is world class etc Great job.

H mixmkr.
Great as usual. I didn't really hear anything accoustic about it. The guitar sounds like a Piezzo pickup on an electric. I love the arrangement, and no matter how many times you use it, I still think your sound effects are amazing and tastefully used. Cool tune! Oren |

Hey Mixmkr... I have to say, very very good job. I don't understand why everyone is saying that doesn't sound like an acoustic guitar. It totally sounds like an acoustic guitar, except with some effects on it. May I ask what all is in this song? Like, instruments and stuff. Again, nice job dude.

At Last, Dimeola and Gilmore have children! Sounds great man, but I gotta agree...you're losing a lot in all that reverb. But you know that. Would love to hear a dryer mix cuz there are some great ideas there.

Nice style, talent and mood set. It's needs just a bit more reverb, though.maybe if you turned it up all the way you'de get the sound your looking for(JK).Please contact the Weather Channel immediatly, your thier new background music artist. You are the mix maker alright.you got a good ear,not too indulgent on your guitar work and that's always a plus in my book.Good music before ego as i always say...well,..as I've just said this once."...and now your local forecast..."
oh,and a "rain stick" may sound sweet @ some of the quieter parts |

oh...soundprizm.. an epiphone cheapie, with a bill lawrence soundhole pickup, a roland gr33 and a roland xp50... dat's it. oh...and of course, a couple of Alesis wedges, acting as my main squeezes... Maybe some plugins...like truverb, etc...I unfortunately don't remember, which ones exactly as I have a BUNCH of 'dem. mics?...what are those?? ![]() |

I. for one, kinda liked the reverb! I mean, its an ambience sort of track to begin with. I could tell it was an amplified acoustic, but that didn't bother me. I will say this. Have you ever tried mixing the pickup and a live mic together? I have done this a few times with great results. Overall, nice track and very tasty picking on this one.

mixmkr is officialy awarded the best and most consistent mixes I hear on homerecording.com
On my headphones the reverb killed me, but on monitors it seemed to add to the polish. Hey, mix, I have a mix that i'll be doing soon and I'll pay you to do the percussion on it. This track is freaking awesome man.

Holy Cow!......that's happening. I don't agree with everyone about the 'verb. I liked it. It has a kind of a sonic tapestry sort of thing going. The only thing I thought might be a little dryer was the acoustic lead. Not much really, but it needs to be a little more present.
I especially liked the transition to the modulation at the end. This is a tune I'm gonna listen to a bunch. First rate stuff man. ![]() |

As I stated in reply to your last post jerod, login/signup services will NOT be online until tomorrow, most likely later in the afternoon. If the artist chose to allow members downloads only, you will not be able to download the song until that time.

about the other one, I threw that track away cos I dislike it now. As long as I know that I need and will to get better, then one day I can conquer the music world.

I must be old and dated. I thought the reverb was appropriate to the tune, which kicks major ass. We seem to be on an acoustic mission. I dig it.

hey mixmkr,
serious question for ya.... Do you 'normalize' your tunes? I'm thinking of buying one of those mastering things for my computer.. I dont record with the computer, but I figure I could at least use it to help the sound.. When I compare this song with the one I'm working on right now, it makes my mix sound dead and lifeless....kinda like me, but I dont want my mixes to reflect that......just the song itself.. ![]() Do you achieve the clarity with e.q.? or fancy shmantsy mastering software?? Is it worth it for me to buy mastering software, or is it proper e.q. and compression technique? lets make with the tips dude! ![]() thanks B |
