Software Mastering

Do any professionals use software only for mastering or at some point of time do you need hardware?

Both, while some prefer software (and I'm not referring to cubase or Logic, but some real pro stuff) others prefer to use some hardware based thingies.

remember that there alwys has to be certain hardware like damn good amplification and burning/reading devices.

For the semipro market the company waves makes good mastering plugins.
