Question vs-880ex EQ/Compression settings

Does anyone have advice on recording directly into the VS-880EX? Recordings tend to sound "flat", digital (cold). What are typical EQ or compression settings to bring more of a "polished" sound? Should getting a preamp make a noticeable difference?

Which preamp is better as far as low noise and recording keyboards: ART Tube TPS or Presonus Bluetube??

Thanks.

As for eq and compression, it depends on what you've got tracked. EQ and compression settings are so variable depending on what sound you get to disk, that it really depends. You just have to play around with it until you are satisfied.

Buying a tube mic pre will definitely make your sound a lot warmer. From my experiences, I would choose the BlueTube over the ART anyday, but like I say, that's just my opinion. There are a lot of tube mic pres out there, check `em out!
