jax is on a distinguished road
alesis sr16 as a module

Can anyone tell how I can use my alesis sr16 in real time with my acoustic kit? I assume I add pads, but the dm has only outs except for midi. The pads I looked at have only 1/4 jacks. How is this done? thank you -jax

That won't work as a module as it is. You could use it if you had something to convert trigger signals into midi. I think Roland makes a device like this for about $250. I think its called the TMC-6 if I'm not mistaken. Look for it on musicians friend. If you had that you could get pads or triggers, or make your own pads or triggers (simply post a question about making your own pads and triggers here and plenty of people will help you.) I do not know how to make triggers, although I've used some homemade triggers that a friend made and he said he got all the parts at radio shack and they cost him about 2 bucks each. Anyway, you can plug up to 6 triggers/pads to the TMC-6 (or whatever its called) and then run a MIDI cable from that to the MIDI IN jack of your drum machine and it will trigger sounds in the drum machine. Or you could probably plug the TMC-6 into a keyboard and play piano by hitting your drums if you so chose.
