Song structure exersize

Something I've been working on , more for fun than anything, is to take my favorite tunes and write down the structure of the song; verses, choruses, bridges, instrumental parts, with their corresponding measures into a sort of template. Then try to forget the original song and write a song using the template. Kinda breaks ya out of your usual song patterns and if ya happen to write a good one, I don't believe templates are copywritable so yer in the clear. If not then we all owe a lot to the guy that invented 12 bar blues.
