VS-1680 to rec. pro tools to mix?

I have a vs-1680...I will refer to it from now on as just the VS because Im tired of typing the whole thing out. Okay here's what I want to do. I want to record everything with my VS and only do very minor mixing and adjustments on it. Then I want to transfer it all over to either "Pro tools free" or "Logic VS" and then I want to clean up the noises do the panning and eq'ing and all that stuff then transfer it all back to do the final mix on the VS....Is there any real benifit to doing it that way besides getting to see all of my tracks in big colorful strips on a big computer monitor?
