Unhappy My ADAT tape is stuck!!!!

The tape door is half open and tape looks like it is ready to eject. There is an ERROR 00 on the display. Anyone have any advice on what to do without damaging the tape? I was going to power down and then take it to the shop tomorrow, but my ADAT manual says to never power down if the tape is threaded. ANy help would be great....I'll be searching posts in the meantime.
Thanks,
werewolf

Sounds like the eject belt snapped....

You should be able to power-down and take it to the shop... or as I did - buy replacement belts and do the replacement yourself! (It's a bit of a pain, but can be done.... just avoid unnecessary motion)

I successfully replaced the belt and recovered the tape.........

Tape repair?

Thanks for the info Blue Bear. Well, I powered down, then powered back up. The tape came right out, but there is about a 6-8" section of tape hanging out of the cassette. One part is pretty scrunched up. Is there any way of salvaging the tape? Will the tape still be playable? Also, the section of the tape damaged is the very beginning of the tape.
Thanks,
Josh

You should be able to wind the tape up in one direction.... if not, then you'll have to carefully open the shell up and wind it up by hand, at the same time disengaging the tape motion "locks" that are inside to allow the tape to wind smoothly.

Personally, I wouldn't re-use that tape - I'd clone it and throw it away....... and I suggest you do the same (if you have a 2nd ADAT.)

If not, consider renting or buying another! You should ALWAYS do tape backups.......!
