How important is a shockmount and pop filter

I've had my NT1000 for a while now and havent realy used it. Next weekend however ive got a friend coming over to lay down some vocals so that we can give a demo to a friend who knows the head of a record label. I dont have a shockmount or a pop filter yet though. Its only a demo but i want the best quaility possible. Are these two items just a must have or can i live without them?

If you place the mic about forehead high, aimed toward the singer's mouth, it will be out of the path of the airblast, so you won't need a pop filter.

If the singer taps his foot loudly, it can sometimes be transmitted to the mic stand and the body of the mic. Have him take off his shoes. You can also roll off all frequencies below 80 Hz, without affecting the vocals drastically.
