Audix CX101 vs. Studio Projects C1

I heard the recording someone posted for the c1 and decided to buy one. Guitar Center and Sam Ash have never heard of it and the music store that was supposed to have it said they were out of them but the salesman swore up and down that the Audix CX101 he had was a better mic and only costs $199. Has anyone had any experience with both mics and can give me an unbiased opinion as to whether or not this is true? From what I have heard the C1 sounds like a great mic and I don't want to settle for less than its quality regardless of cost.

I haven't heard the Audix but I can tell you to beware of salesmen,they are just trying to sell you what they have in stock.If you want a C-1 don't settle for another mic as you will always be wondering about the C-1 and probably will end up buying one anyways.I know 8th Street Music sells the C-1 as does quite a few other online stores.Or maybe you could ask Alan Hyatt for the name of the nearest dealer in your location.

The Audix CX-101 isn't too much different than the MXL-2001P, actually. It's a (surprise!) Shanghai mike.

If what you want is the C1, don't let a salesweasel weasel you into something else. Of course they're going to say what they have in stock is better than what they don't have in stock. Oldest trick in the book.

I had one (the Audix cx101) on loan for over a year, and I own a C-1. That being said, they definately sound DIFFERENT.

It truly sounds like the salesman just wants a sale.(suprise-suprise!)

From my experiend the audix is a great mic for recording acoustic instruments and vocals. But compared to the S.P. C-1, it has a "duller sound" to it - to my ears. Not a hot mic, and not a silky sheen in the highs like a C-1. I actually use and like my C-1 much more than the audix.

Bottom line, the audix is worth 199 (the one I had sold for 599) but if you are after the C-1, this is NOT IT. Buy online, like Zzounds.com for 219.00. The salesman is just pulling at your purse.

Thanks a lot for the advice guys. I will just order the c1 from 8th street. I'm sure the Audix is a decent mic but you're right, if I get it I'll probably always be wondering if the C1 was the better choice...plus I already know how the C1 sounds. To hell with the sneaky salesman. Thanks again.

We made a decision not to sell Guitar Center, Sam Ash, and MARS. The basic reason is it is hard to produce mega quantities of the C Series because the the body is a dual alloy mix, casted, polished, and then etched. The process is time consuming, but does add to the overal sound of the C Series, so we always sell out of shipment. We get a shipment every 90 days, so we simply could not get emough goods to fill what Guitar Center would order by themselves! Besides, there are too many salesman at the Chain Stores who just don't know what they are talking about. This is not the case everywhere, but it is a problem, and they only want to sell you what they have, or make the most money on.

I don't like to go into the quantities we get because I don't need my competitors knowing my business, but we do get a large number. Even still, we sell out to all of our 50 indepandant USA dealers, and our 29 International distributors in about 45 to 60 days. This is why the dealers end up out of stock for a month or so all the time.

The "B" Series can change this, because we can get tons of them as they are made using a different process. While I did not go wild on the inventory yet, we shall see what the end user response is on this first run. If the B Series takes hold as good as the C Series did, then I will order accordingly, but we always start of slow for the first run.

In either case, all the B Series and C Series will be at the dealers next week. We have been shipping since Thursday and will continue until we finish by Wednesday. All units will be in stock and you will get your from 8Th Street.

I bought my C1 at Music123.com for $229.00 and they were very helpful (and they gave me free shipping, too).

What a great mic it is! Alan, congratulations, I was amazed by the sound of it.
