C1000 or NT1?????????

I have read many reviews that recommend the AKG C1000 and the Rode NT1, and they are in the same proce range.

What are your opinions?

I wouldn't buy either. Use the search function, and you'll find a lot of threads talking about mics in this price range. Also, the C1000 is a small diap, the NT1 is a large diap, different uses.

I am looking for a mic that is good for vox and acoustic guitar and I have read a lot of reviews recommending these. My price range is $200, and the cheaper the better. Would a large or small diaphragm suit me better? Are both mics worthwhile for a beginner?

If I was going to spend only $200 I'd buy one marshall V67 LD ($100) and one marshall MXL 603s ($80). Both of these mics have been recommend by Harvey Gerst as "winners". I have the 603 and it sounds sweet on acoustic guitar.

Another good mic in your range: Studio Projects C1. Harvey has also praised the C1, as have many at this BBS.

You can find the V67 at www.marsmusic.com for $99 and the MXL603s at www.8thstreet.com for $79. The 8thstreet webpage keeps crashing on me though.

Once again, do a search, and you'll find a lot of opinions.

As an alternative to the V67 you could check out the new B-series from Studio Projects.The Studio Projects B-1 is going to have a street price of $79.Obviously I haven't heard the B-series yet(hopefully they should be available next week)but they should definetly be worth checking out.

Another inexpensive alternative for recording acoustic guitar is the Behringer ECM 8000.The ECM is a small dia omni mic that was designed as a reference mic that works well for some recording duties.Musicians Friend sells them for $35 dollars each so you could pick up a pair for less than one Mxl 603.A single one would work if you are on a tight budget.

If you decide to go with a Studio Projects B-1 and a Behringer ECM then that only comes to $115 leaving you enough money for a M-Audio Audio Buddy in your budget.You could add a second ECM and still only be twenty five dollars or so above your $200 budget but you would have a LD condensor and a pair of ECMS with a nice little mic preamp(I love my Audio Buddy!!).

someone else suggested the octava mk-319. what about that and the audio buddy--i could add a ECM or a 603 later.

that would work for almost any application I need correct?

I'm not sure about the Octavia maybe someone else who'se used them could help you out.A safer bet might be the V67 as many people here use it and like it but if you feel adventurous the SP B-1 looks very interesting.Time will tell on that mic,I have a feeling it is going to be very nice for the money but that is merely speculation on my part.

Shit,you could even go with a Shure SM57 and an Audio Buddy.Nowhere is it written in stone that you have to buy a condensor and a dynamic can sound pretty nice through the Audio Buddy.

If it was me though,I'm kinda the adventurous type ,so I'd go with the SP B-1 and the Buddy.

I have an Octavia 319. Its a large diaphram mike made in Russia.
You will need 48v phantom supply for it which will add to your
total cost if you don't have one already!

A nice mike with bass roll [switchable] for close recording. also
switchable for sensitivity.

I use it for vocals.

HOWEVER... the first one I got wen't caput after a month and
it took 3 MONTHS for the importer to get a replacement. I live
in UK and this was several years ago so this delay may have
been just a shorterm problem ?.
