This is how i recorded a djembe a couple of months a go:
1 mic about 3 inchs from the bottom hole(low) 1 mic above the top skin(top end) 1 mic aimed at the middle of the drum body I wouldent close mic with the ecm8000, because those mics sound shittyon anything close miced.(great for over heads, i tryed useing my ecm on accoustic today(1.5ft above guitar) and noticed its way better as a room mic) |

should i maybe put an ecm8000 like two feet above the djembe as a sort of room mic to get the sound of the whole drum itself?

Yeah, use the ecm. I didnt use a room mike because i had another dude playing snare in the same room 3 ft away.
