Rode Microphone praise

I bought a Rode NTK microphone (cheap) from a seller on eBay. Unfortunately, he didn't insure it and by the time it arrived, the grille was completely broken off although the micropone itself still worked fine.

A quick call to Rode tech support and I get an RMA with free parts and labor for repairs. Keep in mind that I'm not the original owner and it's technically not under warranty. So after about 5 minutes on the phone, I have all the information I need to send the mic off to get fixed. Now I'll have a repaired working mic instead of a $300 paper weight.

I wish every company did business like this.

I have had a few similar experiences with Rode. The shockmount to my ntv broke...they sent me a brand new one within a week and there were no questions asked. Also, when I bought my ntv off of e-bay, it arrived and the tube was broken...probably due to the tube being jossled during shipping. I sent it off to Rode after receiving the rma number, and they fixed it free of charge. Customer service like this is sometime difficult to find these days. For this, I will be a Rode customer for life.

Alan, my apologies. I totally forgot the awesome customer service you gave me as well. I bought an older joe meek vc5 off e-bay. The disclaimer on the auction was that the unit powered up, but did not work. The guy selling the piece took it to a "technician" who deemed the problem to be much larger than it really was. I bid on the item anyway. I have the joe meek vc6q...and have been very happy with it, so I thought I should try this "great deal". So, I sent the vc5 back to Alan @ PMI. Turns out, one of the fuses need to be changed, and the unit was cured. I was willing to pay whatever to have the unit repared before I found out that it was just a fuse, and i thought...it must be my lucky day! Just for the record, I am a player not a techie at all. I would be afraid of blowing the unit up...If I ever decided to play "mr. fix it." Anyway, Alan had the unit fixed free of charge and I received it back in a little over a week. From this experience in great customer service, I bought a C1. Thanks again Alan!

I'll keep you in mind when I finally get the money for that "Joe Meek" itch I've had for awhile. I didn't mean to offend you in any way, just that this kind of customer service tends to be few and far between.

I'll check you out when I'm ready to buy.

Does anybody know of any dealers of NT-1s that will let you cry in their beer over some QC issue with their particular Rodent?

How many companies do you know of that you can essentially buy a broken piece of audio equipment from a pawn shop (that's essentially what eBay is) and repair it for free with no questions asked? It was a private sale, no dealer/retailer. That's why I was satisfied with the CS.

Well, I have been distributing for over 8 years now. Joemeek was my first line, and now I distribute five, with one more on the way. Prior to being a distributor, I was a manufacturers Rep for many companies like Sony, Lexicon, AKG, DBX, Crest, Allen & Heath, and countless others.

I have always been a musician, and have been a recording engineer for way too many years. I did my apprenticeship in New York city in 1971 to 1973, then started doing sessions for people on my own, and it has been uphill from there. I try to keep my sessions now to a minimum, because my business has grown to the point where it needs my total attention.

Okay, now I'm really debating getting the Rode NTK. I was going to hold off for a while, but I'm getting the shakes hearing you guys speak well of the NTK.

Here's my current cabinet:

Will getting the NTK really add much more "flavor" to my current palette?
What about Baby Blue Bottle instead of NTK?
By the way, VLZ-Pro pre-amps. An Avalon 2022 is due next summer.

Flavor?
We're talking "smorgasbord" here!

The NTK is the kind of mic that makes you say "HOLY SH!T!!!" when you first start recording with it.
All of a sudden, the rest of your mic collection starts getting seriously neglected.

The NTK is my workhorse.
There isn't anything that doesn't sound GREAT through the NTK.... it's as good as it gets for the money.

When teamed with a quality preamp, "pro" results are no problem with this mic.

I HIGHLY recommend the NTK.
