Alan: FatHead?!?!

I guess this is addressed to Alan. I love my VC1q and I wanted to get some more JoeMeek gear, but it turns out the VC6 is no longer being sold. Would I be wrong to assume the FatHead replacing the VC6? I read a bit about it on harmonycentral.com. Will it have the same preamp as the VC6? And can you use the the distortion function on the XLR input as well? Basically, would you suggest buying this unit for guitars AND vocals....? Thanks.
-Teddy

p.s. when's it coming out and HOW MUCH?!?!?! Thanks again. ;p

RecTec,

I recall Alan saying recently that they have convinced Meek to re-continue the VC6, and that they will ultimately be available again sometime in the future.

Teddy,

Well, the good news is, I hammered England into making the VC6Q's again. They will only be available in the USA, but I still think they are a great deal at the $350.00 price. The bad news is they are 60 to 75 days away.

The VC8 FatHead is geared more towards live bass or guitar use. It will work for vocals though. It will have the same mic pre as the new VC6Q, as it will have the CS mic pre, but you will pay a good deal more for a FatHead for perhaps features you may not need, like pre/post D.I., a small foot controller, and a sweep low end. In addition, the VC8 has an Opto Distortion feature that is like a distortion pedal. So you get more, but you pay more, but I think the VC8 is really more suited for the live guy, so you all have to decide. In either case, we will have stock of the VC6Q's soon.

Hey............

I gotta wonder if the Fathead would be cool for vocals. Effected vox, of course. Have you tried this thing, Alan? If you get a chance, you should put some vocals through it.

What is the price giong to be for this thing?

Well, I that makes me feel extra lucky. I'm going to pick up a brand new VC6Q tomorrow that I've had put away for me. I guess it's one of the not so many new ones left in Europe.

I'll bet it's going to be a big improvement over the pres in my Behringer 602A.

Well... I've been reading this bbs for quite some time now and it has been very interesting and useful so far. Today I just felt like it was time to register. One day I might even have some wisdom to share. The VC6Q is a serious toy and it will definately boost the amount of time I'll be spending on recording in the future.

Sorry, I have not used it yet. There is only 1 prototype. I guess $599.99 will be the price, so look at about $450.00 in the stores. That gets close to the VC1Qcs!!

hi guys,

i got that FATHEAD, and i like it,
i use it for guitars, and yeah, you can change the sound alot,
the distortion is very ....yeah, special,
sharp, clean, clear, cutting, and with the right compression on it you can make it sound real bad...

but there are better distortion units out there of course....

i mainly use this Fathead for mics !
for my kick drum, or for vocals, and i think its good,
it sure has a warm sound, the compression is nice,
you only have presets, its an optical compressor, no attack/rekease
only ratio and those presets, but it does work great !

eq does a nice job...eventhough i got the feeling that there is better stuff out there..... i'd love to compare the eq of the fathead with some other Joemeek EQ's......
can anyone do this ? (please?)

it has that foot controller, which i don't use alot, its a nice option,
but we can live without it..
two outputs + a direct out and you can select between a DRY or WET direct output

its a nice machine, i'm gonna keep on experimenting with it,
but i'm very curious about the Presonus Eureka....
i think that eureka is just better for recording vocals......i'm right, no?

i might sell my joemeek this year....do you live in europe ?
i'm from belgium..... mine is like brandnew and hard to get

any further questions ?
or answers ?

cheers

Whatever happened to the VTB-2 that was supposed to be coming out "very soon" for, like, the last two years? Is that still in the works?

It is still in the comming stage. I have learned not to put dates on things anymore as to many issues keep popping up that delay it. So, yes, it is real, still ion the testing stage, and we have been making many changes to the circuitry to get it to be exactly where we want.

So, it will be here when it is here. A good guess is end of year or NAMM 2005
