RNC Problem

I spent all my hard earned money on an RNC yesterday and I took it home and my band recorded and....I swear to god it does nothing. We used it for bass and vocals, and there was absolutely no difference in the sound. The only difference between the bypass and when the signal was being "compressed" was it sounded a bit louder. Supernice mode does nothing! I had the settings all panned to the right, except gain which was at the center, just to compress as much as possible. But no sound difference. No matter what I did there was no difference. Should I take it back?

If panned to the right means clockwise, you had the threshold set to +20. Lower it for compression.
Do the gain reduction meters light up? And does the gain knob effect the output volume?

What are you expecting it to do? If you can really hear it you are using too much. Did you look at the waveform? How are the peaks?

Heh-heh... exactly!

There's nothing like the cry of a newbie hearing his first taste of a good compressor!!!

"geez... what's wrong with this thing? My 3630 smoothed everything out by making it sound muddy, and I could HEAR the compressor working!!! What gives - with the RNC I can't tell if the compressor's doing anything!!!"

Sorry Abbot... just pokin' a bit 'o fun at ya!

Ok. Here's a nasty one. A case where my old yamaHA!2020 sounded better than the RNC.
On a blues lead voc we did with a hand held OM5 for the effect, and the RNC's were busy saving the world, when i tried to swap out the 2020 for the final mix, we put it back. The dynamic and a bit of edge worked. Super Nice, went home early this night.

why don't you try to set the threadhole all the way to your left, ratio high, and see if you could "see" the difference on the meter
