2 channel mixdown deck

hello,
I'm in the market for a good 2 channel reel to reel. Want to spend $300-500, which will seem to get me an otari or tascam 1/4". What to look for? XLR I/O means better electronics? DBX noise reduction needed (although I don't see it used much for 2 tracks). Any advice appreciated!!
