Mixing problems pro audio 9

When I have been working on a project and I save the mix and open the song again, some faders are at 0 dB even if I mixed them lower. I try again and again to put the fader in different positions and save, but when I open the song maybe one particular fader position won't be saved. Does anyone know what the trouble is? I have tried to check out the automation, but I think I know how that works. Sometimes when I start playing the song again, the fader position is correct but the hearing level is 0 dB. Then I have to touch the fader a bit and the level is correct. Strange!!! Any solutions?

if you are recording audio, then you might try going to the track view, scrolling over to the volume and pan columns, change all of them to (-1).
this will give you control over the levels and they will stay where you put them.
this instruction is somewhere in the manual.
good luck.

Also, on the fader window, look for the "update" button. The default setting is down. If you push it, it will turn off and your faders wont move or nothing no more less you tell em to...

Edit

The button looks like a fader...right next to the little camera...
