Me and my band want to convert 5 rooms of the upstairs of a house into a studio. Is there a way we can somehow prevent sound from seeping through the floor and going right to the rooms below? Perhaps making a false floor with sound insulation and dead air to kill the sound?

What you suggest is pretty much spot on. What you want to do is build a false floor where the studs rest on some rubber thingies to get better insulation from the real floor. Also make sure that the seams between the false floor and the walls are rubber insulated and airtight. The next step would be to build a room-within-a-room but you could probably start out with just the false floor and go for the room-within-a-room if that proves insufficient.

Check out the following doc: http://www.auralex.com/a-101/a101v28a.pdf It has a lot of good tips.

BTW Did you mean that you are going to use five rooms for this studio? It sounds like you have enough room to build a kick-arse studio.

Good luck
