My PA9 had some problem... When I play my keyboard KORG N364 through SB Live! MIDI Port, takes 1 to 2 secon to hear the note I played. Same thing happens when I change the port. I use Win XP home edition. I've checked all necesary setting, normal... Sounds like I've got MIDI latency problem. I install Cakewalk Pro 3.0 (... yes, the old one...) it works just fine... no latency heard. What went wrong with the PA9 ? How can I solve this ?

try getting the latest patch for version 9 from cakewalk.com
i've had intermittent problems but it has always turned out to be some background process on the PC causing the problem. |

Okay, I've got the latest patch from cakewalk.com, I also spying those hiden CPU activity, everything is normal. I even shut down many unrelated windows background activity (which I know exactly for sure doesn't have anything to do with PA9), it still doesn't solve the problem. I'm thinking of upgrading to sonar, but I'm affraid I wouldn't do that without granted. I reinstall my PA9, it still goes that way...? Ain't it strange ?

Sonar upgrade may not be the answer...
I just started a similar thread, titled "Midi is kicking my @$$" describing a similar problem. I'm using Sonar 1.3. There are so many variables in this equation. Windows, sound card, keyboard controller, sound module, etc.
I'm not having the problem anymore and I don't know how I fixed it. But what DID NOT work for me was the diagram in the Sonar manual for hooking up. What I ended up with was my initial setup: midi out from keyboard to midi in on soundcard. Midi out from sound card to midi in on sound module. I didn't use the thru on the sound module as recommended or the keyboard's midi in (this caused all kinds of loops and lockups). In project options, midi input, I checked only the channel I was sending midi on. Echo on auto. You might want to start with none and see where it goes. I'm not familiar with your keyboard, but I think the one I have (my friend's) is the source of most of my trouble (it's over 15 years old and the only constant of my setup over the past 5 years and 4 versions of Cakewalk that always give me some sort of midi problem).

I know exactly how you feel. I had a very similar problem with PA9. I dont know if it was the hardware I was running or if it IS something with PA9. I HAD a SB Live card and a SB 64 gold running with the audio through the Live card and the midi through the 64 gold. I rebuilt my computer(with MUCH more high end motherboard and processor, plus an extra 512mb of ram). In the process I took out the 64 gold and had audio AND MIDI running through the live card. THAT'S when the problems came. My midi timing was completely off, I couldnt even get audio to load and play with midi tracks I'd already created. I uninstalled, re-installed and nothing worked untill I put the 64 gold back in. Now? Everything runs perfectly. Go figure.

My spec is :
PC : P!!! 866, Asus MB, SBLive! DE5.1. with latest driver update from Creative. 256 RAM, 20 & 3,2 GB 5400rpm HD. NVidia 32MB AGP vidoe card. Runing winXP Home edition, CWPA 9.03. KORG N364 Keyboard hooked to SBLive!'s MIDI OUT/IN. KORG O5R/W hooked to PC/IF Serial interface. I use no Thru conection. Umh... note when I change the VGA resolution from 32 bit (True color) to 16 bit, the latency is slightly reduced... I can hear the note being sounded earlier... so...?
