is it possible to import an mp3 into cake walk and play it?...slow it down..the tempo..so i can hear some of the fast lead notes?

Sure, you can import an MP3 easily. I will assume you have Sonar.

go to File, then "import audio". PA9 is similiar, I think.

As far as slowing it down, it is possible to an extent. I dont know what plug-ins you have, but look for "time stretch".

If it's possible to import MP3-files, why is that not possible by using the Loop Explorer. That would be great! Is there a way to do that?

I just tried!! Nope.

However, it would be really simple to convert the mp3 to a .wav file first, then it will work.

Well, yeah of course... the convertion is not a problem. But I still think that Sonar should have this conversion built in the Loop Explorer?

Does anybody know if Sonar 2.0 supports it?

To be honest, I don't even know what the Loop explorer does!!! I can guess of course, But I don't do loop stuff.

One thing I would like in Sonar 3 is better notation. I have Sibelius, which is state-of-the-art, but I wish I could do it all in the program.

The Loop Explorer is good to use i.e. you want to lay down a drum track using different samples each bar, instead of just looping one over and over (GrooveClip). But I've got a lot of drumsamples in MP3 and while it's not much work, it's irritating that I can't use them directly from the Loop Explorer.

Enable Groove Clip Looping on any audio clips that you want to follow the tempo changes. Do this by selecting one or more clips, right-clicking a selected clip, and choosing Groove-Clip Looping from the popup menu. Each clip that has Groove Clip Looping enabled has beveled edges instead of sharp corners. The same command disables Groove Clip Looping on any selected clip that has Groove Clip Looping enabled.
Click the Tempo List button to display or hide the tempo list.
Select any tempo change in the list.
Click Insert Tempo to open the Tempo dialog box.
Set the tempo, time, and other properties.
Click OK

i set tempo to 50 but it was too slow and distorted...set it to 75 and the notes come out slow enough for me to identify them...
i am using this to figure out some intricate guitar parts in some songs....
