This is our first effort at recording, so I didn't think it was best to start off with our strongest material. But if you want to comment on the songwriting, that would be great too.

your drum timing is WAY off....almost to the extent of unbearable.
The singing is the highlight of the song..but the rest is fairly poor. I'd get the timing errors straightend out first, before you continue on.

yeah dude..........the drums are hammered.....BUT I DO believe the song is good....The singers voices are good but the drums are just hammered bro....the song IS there though.....but the hammered drums are just 'blowing up the spot'

Like everyone else said the drummer......I'm thinking of when the Beatles got rid of Pete Best and hired Ringo. He tightened up the whole sound of the band, the rest is history. The song is pretty good, sounds like the Hollies 'Bus Stop' sort of to my old ears. But really - you need to fire the drummer. I' know that sounds cold blooded, but a drummer with no sense of timing or rhythm is a lost case. It reminds me of a guy I know who has a really beautiful voice, but he has no sense of timing and can only sing by himself.

the drums are like bile that has been resting on my tongue for five straight days and its driving you nuts and it wont stop or go away and !! and !! okay......whoa, thats harsh.

Thanks for the input. I knew the drums were bad, but I didn't think they were that bad. Oh well. I'm suprised people liked the song itself. This was our first attempt at recording, so I didn't want to use our best material - figuring we'd screw something up. Turned out to be the drums huh?

The drums are a MIDI track. And the problems happened because we did not put the drum track down first. We had tempo issues in the early part of the song. So we would either have to retrack everything or do our best with the drums. Lesson learned: get the drums right first.

Are the drums fixable? If so, what would one do to fix them? Is the double bass-kick on the backbeats the biggest problem?

I dont think there is any real way to fix the drums. The damage is already done. I hate to say this but youre going to have to lay down the drum tracks first and then record all the parts again.

This may take a while to do, but it would probably be quicker than trying to fix the problem and you will definitely get better results.


Its happened to all of us....at least 10 times.....

I'm glad to hear the drummer is just a machine! I'm pretty new to home recording too. What I'm doing with all the stuff I'm recording is getting the drum machine tempo down first, then adding a scratch track of rhythm guitar on. This gives me the structure of the song with all the timing, tempo and changes dead on. Then I start building from there. Its really slow going, cuz I'm trying to lay real drums over the drum machine, and then lose the drum machine. Then I add the bass. this is the hardest part for me - getting the drums and bass really tight. Then I redo the rhythm guitar and lose the scratch track. So now I have drums, bass and rhythm guitar - basically the rhythm section recorded. Then what ever else, like leads and vocals. Its slow going, and I'm still learning, but I think this is a good approach to get a tight recorded sound.
