Tons of drums & no knowledge
Howdy...
I need some real basic knowledge on how to put together a drum set, how to mic it, adjust it, ... all the stuff I need to do to record it. I inherited several drumsets from my late brother in 1993. Rogers, Yamaha... about 20 sabian cymbals, paiste etc... double kicks and tons of other stuff I don't have a clue about... Since then, I've been trying to continue recording in the studio without him using drum machines, ie... http://members.rogers.com/schmange5/Scary.mp3 ... but I'm constantly being told that the 'canned' drums sound awful. (which they do) Soo.. what I'm intending to do is partially assemble his old drumsets and re-record, one at a time, each piece... ie, re-do the hi-hats, toms and cymbals and then sample the kick and snare and assemble the whole thing. Is there a half decent web site anybody knows about that would help me, with diagrams, how to put this stuff together, how to mic it... sampling advice etc etc... |

try using the search function, and reading everything you can find about the subject.
also try getting a couple of books on the subject, like the 'drummer's studio survival guide' and the bob gatzen drum tuning video. a few links- http://www.drumweb.com/profsound.shtml http://www.prorec.com http://www.musicbooksplus.com/prorec.htm |

check out this page:
http://www.drumsdatabase.com/ there are links to numerous pages covering various drumming topics - there are a couple of topics specific to what you want (setting up a drumset, tuning) here's the best tuning page that I've seen (Professor Sound's Drum Tuning Bible) - this isn't linked from the previous page: http://www.drumweb.com/profsound.shtml |
