Cool

I'm starting up a small home recording setup.. plan to use a couple mics into a Mackie 1202 then to the computer. Right now I use a Shure SM-57.. but I'm looking to expand a bit with another quality mic that would compliment the 57 well. Under $200 sounds good. Looking at stuff from Oktava and Rode.. any ideas anyone?

Wink

Mainly electric and acoustic guitars, and vocals. Looking for something that I could do drum micing as well in the future.

Question

What kind of instruments would you record with this new microphone?

I would use the sm57 for your guitar amp.
If you can budget for a small diaphragm condensor mic like Oktava MC012, that would work best for acoustic guitar.
For the vocals you should have a large diaphragm condensor. I think Oktava MC319 is in your price range, maybe a little higher but not too much. I have the MC219 and like it very much.
Just so I'm not pushing just Oktava ... AKG C3000 and AT 4033 are great mics, but I think around $350.
You will also need a phantom power supply for any condensor mics. I'm not sure if your Mackie 1202 has that or not (?).

Anyway, hope that helps

Just so you know....
The AKG C3000 and Rode NT-1 are only $199 at Musicians Friend, not $350 as mentioned above.
Sounds like "under $200" to me!

Check out Oktava mics at www.soundroom.com
If you decide on an Oktava, this is the place to buy it from!
