Question 1 3/4 " tape ???? please help

My Dad has a friend who recorded some material on what has been described to me as 1 3/4 " tape. The friend needs to transfer this tape (hope I'm in the right forum) to a more user friendly format. The guy is supposed to have some kind of deal with Virgin records and for some reason they want him to mix this previously recorded material down to a CD or whatever and don't seem to be willing to do it for him. I have never heard of 1 3/4 " tape and neither have the few people I know with 2 " machines.
(I record on ADATs or 1/4 analog machines.) If anyone is familiar with the 1 3/4" format and/or has a machine that will handle it please let me know. Also I have never seen the tape as this guy lives two states away. Thank you in advance.

He's likely talking about the tape speed, rather than its width. 1 7/8 ips (very close to 1 3/4) is the standard for cassettes, and is available on some reel-to-reels as well.

Of course, people have come up with plenty of crazy tape formats. I've never heard of 1 3/4" tape.......

.........but then again who would've thought that Mohammed Atta's student visa would be approved six months after he flew a plane into the World Trade Center?

Crazy world, huh?

I apologize for the off-topic comment...

Thumbs up

That is a possibility I haven't thought of. I am going to try to get the actual tape and solve the whole issue. I don't believe there is any tape 1 3/4 " wide. Anyway thanks for the response.
