Mixing with Mackie SRM 450 active speakers?

I do a lot of live playing as well as some home recording. Right now I have a cheap Peavey PA system and no studio monitors. I would like to upgrade my live sound as well as my studio if possible.


These Mackies are supposed to be very accurate and wonderful sounding. They are designed for live sound reinforcement, but I was wondering if anyone has used them in a home recording environment for mixing? If not, does anyone have comments and how they might work as mixing monitors (a least for now). I plan on using them with a Soundcraft mixer.

Any comments would be helpful.

I wouldn't do it. I have a pair of the Mackies in my studio which I decided to hook up as large playback speakers (I have ADAM S2-As and Mackie HR824s as nearfileds). The SRM450s sounded terrible in comparison with either set of monitors. They are not nearly flat enough, or detailed enough to mix on. They are great live sound reinforcement speakers (if you don't need to put bass or kick in them) but even a cheap set of nearfield monitors would be better for mixing.
